The fire is burning in Ponderosa and mixed conifer at the higher elevations, with grass and brush at the lower elevations. Fuels are about average for the season, but seasonal levels support robust fire spread.

The Grasshopper Fire is well established in the Badger, Little Badger, and Tygh Creek drainages. Fuels are dry and the fire sits on the edge of a Fuels and Fire Behavior Advisory area; however, the general vicinity is one of the few areas in Oregon not currently in drought conditions, and fuel conditions are allowing crews to achieve success in strategic and tactical operations. Hard work along the 4810 Road and Highland Ditch has reduced the southern flank to only scattered heat remaining. The northwest and northern portions of the fire are backing at a steady pace against slope and wind, while the northeastern and eastern portions are experiencing downslope winds in the afternoon that have presented fire behavior challenges. Small tactical firing operations are being conducted to tie the fire into good natural breaks and roads.

Continue to use existing roads to build direct and indirect fire line. Use available aerial resources to help slow the the spread. Continue to assess future direct and indirect line placement.

12 Hours: Mostly clear skies with gusty west winds becoming light and downslope overnight, along with moderate to good humidity recoveries, will keep fire behavior tempered throughout the
overnight period. The fire will continue backing with no major runs anticipated, as good
humidity recoveries limit fire spread.

24 Hours: Little to no change in weather is expected, with seasonably warm and dry conditions and typical diurnal westerly winds continuing into Thursday. The fire will continue to flank against
the wind in the Three Mile, Badger, Little Badger, and Tygh Creek drainages. Tying in the 27
Road in to Tygh Creek should reduce the fire threat to the communities to the southeast.

Benign southwesterly flow will maintain seasonal conditions and typical diurnal westerly winds through Thursday, supporting continued progress on the on the southern flank and steady backing behavior on the northwest and north sides toward the Badger and Little Badger Creek drainages. A cold front approaching Friday will bring hotter, drier conditions, with potential to intensify fire behavior over the fire area. The front's passage Saturday, with strong, gusty west winds, poses the greatest risk for Increased spread, particularly on the northeastern and eastern flanks, where
downslope winds already present afternoon fire behavior challenges.
