Fresno businesses evacuated after 'hazardous materials incident'

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Several Fresno businesses were evacuated after a hazardous materials incident Wednesday morning.

Crews say the culprit was pepper spray that had migrated through a multi-tenant commercial building.

It prompted the evacuation of 41 people from several businesses along Blackstone Avenue, including Grifols Plasma Center, Joyride Insurance Company, Leslie’s Pool Supplies, Planet Fitness, and a nearby hair salon.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and after monitoring air quality and ventilating the building, most of the businesses were cleared for reoccupation.

Crews say Grifols Plasma Center will remain closed while additional cleanup is completed.
