REEDLEY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – The elderly couple killed in a Tuesday morning hit-and-run were identified as a Reedley couple.

The coroner’s office identified them as 75-year-old Luis Martinez Araujo and 78-year-old Maria Juarez Mendez.

The couple was walking in the area of Manning and Haney avenues around 4:45 a.m. when a driver hit them.

They were transported to a local hospital, where they later died.

Detectives are working to identify the vehicle and driver involved. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision, observed a vehicle with recent damage, or has surveillance or dash camera footage from the area is encouraged to contact the Reedley Police Department.
