SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A tourist died along a popular Sequoia National Park trail on Thursday.

The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office named him as 79-year-old John Francis Oliver. He lived in Henderson, Nevada.

While the circumstances leading up to his death were not revealed, the National Park Service says it was called in as a medical emergency.

They add that he was found along the General Sherman Tree Trail, surrounded by towering sequoias.
