The fire is burning mostly on public land north of Highway 26 and west of Othello in Adams County. The fire started in the early hours of July 16 from a lightning strike. Rain accompanying the storm kept the fire concealed until approximately 10:45 a.m. Thursday when wind picked up the fire and pushed it primarily north and east through the rugged terrain. Limited access, quick burning fuels and wind have limited suppression response. Southeast Washington Incident Management – Team 3 added the Royal Lake fire to its command at 6 AM Saturday. The team is also managing the Lyon’s Ferry, Devil’s Canyon, Neff Jones and Wallace Walker fires. The phone number is the same for all five fires.
