Before the next Helping One Woman dinner can change someone’s life, organizers are asking the community for a little help of their own.
The Oakhurst chapter of Helping One Woman (HOW) is currently seeking donations of raffle and auction items for its monthly fundraising dinners, where every dollar raised goes directly to a local recipient in need.
Organizers are looking for a wide variety of new and unused items, including collectibles, gift baskets, gift cards, services, experiences, and other unique donations that can be raffled or auctioned during each event. Local businesses and individuals are encouraged to contribute, knowing that 100 percent of the proceeds benefit the month’s recipient.
“Our sponsor needs your help,” organizers said in a recent appeal. “Together, we can make a life-changing difference.”
The donations will help support July recipient Yesenia Zamudio, who will be honored during the next Helping One Woman dinner on Tuesday, July 21, at the Sierra Senior Center in Oakhurst.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with dinner beginning at 6 p.m. Guests may choose from BBQ pulled pork, BBQ pulled chicken, or a grilled vegetable sandwich prepared by Willow Creek Catering.
As with every Helping One Woman event, attendees are also encouraged to bring a minimum $10 gift for Zamudio, in addition to participating in the raffles, auctions, and dessert sales. Every dollar raised during the evening is presented directly to the recipient before the event concludes.
Advance reservations are required for the dinner, and organizers emphasize there will be no walk-in seating or ticket sales at the door. Reservations close at noon on Sunday, July 19.
Helping One Woman has become a meaningful tradition in the mountain communities by bringing neighbors together to support local women facing unexpected hardships. While the monthly dinners provide financial assistance to one recipient at a time, they depend heavily on the generosity of businesses and community members who donate items that make the raffles and auctions possible.
Anyone interested in donating raffle or auction items—or attending the July dinner in support of Yesenia Zamudio—is encouraged to contact Helping One Woman Oakhurst or register for the event through the My SOS Event website.
