The fire is currently burning in sage, juniper, and some timber in the higher elevations. It is threatening critical Sage Grouse habitat, area highways and roads, the city of Eureka, and nearby unincorporated communities. Infrastructure including transmission lines, natural gas pipelines and pumping station, and several communication towers are also threatened. The fire damaged the Union Pacific rail tracks and continues to threaten the railroad. Mining operations have been limited.

The Cherry fire has received attention from the Utah State Governor, County officials, and local and national news media. Displaced evacuees continue to seek information and are anxious to return to their homes. Smoke from the Cherry fire has impacted the Wasatch Front and surrounding areas. The fire has the potential for extreme fire behavior and that may hinder firefighters from engaging safely on the ground. The incident will continue to utilize local initial attack resources for critical suppression efforts, though local agencies continue to request initial attack engines to return to their home units. The need to backfill these resources, while meeting current and anticipated operational demands, has created a critical need for additional resources. Engine, crew, and dozer resources continue to play a vital role in protecting the town of Eureka, Mammoth, Silver City, and Tintic Junction supporting suppression and control operations, and strengthening night shift capabilities.
