The Madera County Transportation Authority (MCTA) has approved the Implementing Guidelines for the renewed Measure T transportation sales tax program, marking a major milestone in the implementation of the citizen-initiated, voter-approved measure and ensuring continued investment in local transportation infrastructure throughout Madera County.

The Implementing Guidelines establish the policies, procedures, and accountability measures that will govern the distribution and expenditure of Measure T revenues when the current measure expires and the renewed measure takes effect.

According to MCTA, the guidelines were developed to ensure revenues are allocated in accordance with the Measure T Ordinance and Expenditure Plan approved by Madera County voters in November 2024.

Measure T was renewed through a citizen-led initiative approved by voters in November 2024, demonstrating strong local support for continued investment in transportation infrastructure and the preservation of local control over transportation funding decisions.

The renewed Measure T will provide a dedicated local funding source to support the maintenance, rehabilitation, and improvement of roads, streets, bridges, and transportation infrastructure throughout Madera County, the City of Madera, and the City of Chowchilla. The funding will also help local agencies leverage additional state and federal transportation dollars by providing the local matching funds often required to successfully compete for grant opportunities.

“The voters of Madera County made it clear that maintaining and improving our transportation system remains a priority,” said Robert Poythress, Chair of the Madera County Transportation Authority. “These guidelines ensure that Measure T funds will improve roads, enhance safety, and secure additional state and federal funding for future transportation projects. This local investment will help address transportation needs and improve mobility for residents for many years to come.”

Measure T has served as a critical source of local transportation funding for nearly two decades, supporting roadway maintenance, safety improvements, congestion relief projects, and other transportation investments that improve the quality of life for residents throughout the county.

The renewed measure will continue that legacy by providing a reliable, locally controlled, voter-approved source of funding dedicated exclusively to transportation purposes.
