Unofficial results of the California Primary Election show Frank Bigelow and Melanie Barker poised to square off in November for the Fifth District Supervisor.
Bigelow currently leads the vote for District 5 with just over 46% of the vote, 22% ahead of runner-up Melanie “Mel” Baker. Bigelow formerly represented California’s 5th District in the State Assembly, as well as being a firefighter. Melanie Baker is a U.S. Navy Veteran and local Oakhurst business owner.
One of the two candidates will succeed current 5th District Supervisor Robert Macaulay, who declined to seek re-election. The Fifth District represents the mountain side of Madera County, including Coarsegold, North Fork, Oakhurst and Bass Lake, plus the quickly growing area of Tesoro Viejo in southeast Madera County.
As far as the Madera County votes for the Governor, Republican Steve Hilton is heavily leading, including 40% of the Madera County votes. Behind him is Chad Bianco with 17.58%, Xavier Becerra with 17.30%, and Tom Steyer with 14.57% of the Madera County votes.
