MARIPOSA COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Over 30 dogs and one cat were rescued from a hoarder’s home Tuesday in Mariposa County, which the sheriff’s office says is “one of the worst animal hoarding cases.”
In September 2025, the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office’s animal control received a report from a concerned citizen of “many” dogs being locked inside a residence and living in unsanitary conditions.
After multiple attempts of visiting the home, the sheriff’s office said the resident remained reluctant to accept the assistance or cooperate with the investigation.
In mid-March, animal control officers asked for a search warrant for the premises.
On Tuesday, they served a search warrant at the residence in Catheys Valley. The sheriff’s office said they found a total of 36 dogs and one cat that were confined in the residence, living in extremely unsanitary and unacceptable conditions.
The dogs and cat were rescued and were immediately provided with veterinary care.
Elizabeth Lopez-Calderon was arrested for multiple charges.
