FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Police are investigating after a man was found dead in Fresno during a welfare check.

On Thursday, Feb. 12, at around 2 p.m., officers responded to an apartment complex near First Street and Dayton Avenue for a welfare check on 72-year-old Leon Conway.

Neighbors reported that they had not seen Conway for several days. Officers forced entry into the apartment and found Conway dead.

An autopsy revealed that Conway had blunt force trauma to his body; investigators have determined his death as a homicide.

Detectives said they learned that he lived alone but frequently allowed various people to come into his residence. It’s believed he was involved in an argument with one of those people, during which he was physically assaulted.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Fresno Police Department or call homicide Detective J. Baronia at 559-621-2516 or Detective N. Carr at 559-621-2445.
