FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – You still have a little bit of time to ask someone to be your Valentine.
Businesses across Fresno spent the day preparing for the rush of last-minute shoppers looking for a gift for their special someone.
“We have been preparing for this weekend for a month now. We have yesterday we had 80 flats of strawberries that came in,” Susie Bowen said.
She is the owner of Chocolate Wishes and Treats at the Sierra Vista Mall. She said Valentine’s Day is a crucial day for her business, and they’re selling lots of chocolate-covered strawberries.
“We’ve had all 15 staff members work here today. We will be here all weekend long,” Bowen said.
When it comes to roses, the staff at Carmen’s Flowers in Fresno has been working non-stop since 5 a.m on Friday. They kept their shop open three hours late Friday night to get all of the orders done.
“Right now, I think I have over, I want to say over 100 orders for sure. And then we are making a few extra for walk-ins as well,” manager Adrian said.
And Americans are expected to spend big. The National Retail Federation says lovebirds nationwide are expected to spend nearly $29 billion on Valentine’s Day presents. They say that $29 billion, candy, flowers, and cards are the top categories.
“Honestly, it means a lot to us. We’re a small family-owned business,” Adrian added.
Both businesses will also be open on Valentine’s Day for even more last-minute shopping.
