SANGER, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Adults who “encourage or assist minors” in leaving campus during school hours in Sanger could be charged with a misdemeanor, according to the Sanger Police Department.

City officials said on Thursday that adults enabling students to miss their classes, in violation of the Education Code, could face charges under California Penal Code section 272.

The announcement echoes a similar one on Wednesday evening by the Clovis Police Department, which was made following a demonstration against the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Tuesday.

In the post on social media, Sanger Police writes that “students should remain on campus during the school day and express their views in safe, appropriate ways.”

The police department adds that they will continue to work with the Sanger Unified School District to protect student safety and “maintain a safe school environment.”
