
MONO COUNTY, CA – On Friday, September 26, an alarming incident near Yosemite National Park led to a terrifying experience for a group of hikers. They found themselves ducking for cover as bullets flew overhead.

The Mono County Sheriff’s Office reported that an emergency call came in around 1:50 p.m. as outdoor enthusiasts sought refuge behind rocks and trees, fearing for their safety during what should have been a serene day in nature.
Dispatchers could hear gunfire in the background of the frantic call, prompting immediate action from sheriff’s deputies. Upon arriving at the Parker Lake trailhead, deputies were met by several hikers who recounted the harrowing moments they endured as they “felt and heard bullets passing overhead.” Those on the trail, located in the picturesque Ansel Adams Wilderness, described a scene of chaos as they attempted to flee from the unknown danger.
Following the sound of gunfire, deputies located three individuals engaged in target shooting. The suspects, identified as being from Southern California, were arrested on-site and charged with willful discharge of a firearm in a grossly negligent manner, a felony under California law. The sheriff’s office emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that while no injuries were reported, the hikers were undoubtedly placed in harm’s way and experienced justifiable fear during this alarming encounter.

Parker Lake Trail is renowned for its breathtaking scenery, offering a two-mile hike that culminates at a stunning lake situated at an elevation of 8,000 feet.
