
Oakhurst, CA – The local chapter of nonprofit organization Helping One Woman (HOW) will meet on October 14, 2025, at Bee’s Bakery Cafe in Oakhurst. This month’s recipient is Lori Hillis, who is lovingly sponsored by Kimberly Vaughan.

Born and raised in Mariposa, Lori is a true daughter of this community, known for her warm smile, tireless work ethic, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. Many know her as the friendly face of Bootjack Market and through her years of dedication supporting the vacation homes that welcome visitors to the area.
“In recent months, Lori has been facing her greatest challenge: an aggressive form of cancer that has brought numerous surgeries and overwhelming medical bills. Through it all, her courage and grace continue to inspire those around her,” say organizers. “It is our turn to support her. By giving from the heart, we can ease the burden of this fight for Lori and her family, and show her the same love and generosity she has shown to so many of us.”
“The overwhelming emotional & heartfelt support that we give our recipients is the energy behind the Helping One Woman Organization. We look forward to sharing this energy with you on Tuesday, October 14th, when we will honor Lori,” say organizers.
Those participating in the HOW benefit dinner will make a contribution of $10 or more for Lori and pay for their own dinners. Proceeds from the evening will be distributed directly to Lori at the end of the event, and she will randomly draw the November recipient from a pool of nominees.
Prepaid dinner tickets are required. Please reserve your ticket & pre-pay for your meal in advance.
The RSVP deadline is Friday, October 10th, at 10:00 a.m.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m., dinner is served at 6:00 p.m., and the prize drawing begins at 7:00 p.m. Dinner is served on an open seating basis.

• Mixed Vegetable Lasagna: $24.99 with a creamy bechamel sauce and mozzarella
• Penne alla Vodka: $24.99 with Italian sausage, peas, and arugula
Entrées served with Caesar salad and fresh-baked bread. Iced tea, soda, and water are included with each meal. Beer and wine are available for purchase.
How To Be Involved
• Interested in contributing a prize drawing or auction item? Please contact a HOW Leader. We don’t have a drop-off location in town, but we’d love to meet you in person and thank you for your generosity!
• You do not need to know our recipient to join the fun. Men and children are welcome. We are family-friendly.
• Make your own nomination! Nominations are made in person by attending a HOW Dinner. One adult is allowed per nomination form per dinner, so feel free to bring friends!
What qualifies a HOW Recipient:
1) Nominee must be a woman in our community, and
2) This woman (or her child or her spouse) is going through or has gone through an irreplaceable loss within the last 18 months.
Please note that a financial hardship alone does not qualify a HOW Recipient. If you are not sure your recipient qualifies to be nominated, please feel free to contact us with questions.
